Prague is Utopic for an Astrologer 🇨🇿
As a professional astrologer, I always get excited when I meet someone else who’s into the Zodiac. So you can imagine my joy when I discovered that Prague, Czechia, is basically a playground for astrology enthusiasts!
I had the chance to visit this fairytale-like city in December 2021, and explored some truly magical sites: the Prague Astronomical Clock, the Klementinum Baroque Library, and the Štefánik Observatory. This Bohemian capital did not disappoint. ✨
Prague Astronomical Clock
The highlight for me was the Prague Astronomical Clock, built in 1410! It’s located at the Old Town Hall and is the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world—and the oldest still in operation. I was honestly starstruck. 🌟
Astrology is often dismissed as pseudoscience, so I found it incredibly inspiring that Prague has honored it through something so intricate and respected.
The clock tracks:
The position of the Sun and Moon
The current zodiac sign the celestial bodies are in
Sidereal time
The vernal equinox
When I visited on December 1st, 2021, the Sun was in Sagittarius ☀️♐️ and the Moon in Libra 🌙♎️. The Sagittarian Sun brought themes of exploration and higher learning, while the Libra Moon offered balance and sociability. Honestly, a perfect combination for a trip dedicated to astrology and beauty!
Every hour, the clock puts on the "Walk of the Apostles": a show featuring moving Apostle figures, saints, a calendar dial, and a skeleton representing Death striking the time. 👼🏻💀 According to legend, Prague will suffer if the clock is ever neglected, and a ghost mounted on the clock will nod in warning. How cool is that?
I did a clock tour and got to see the internal mechanisms up close. Here’s a nerdy detail I loved:
The zodiac ring moves due to a stereographic projection of the ecliptic plane using the North Pole. It’s connected by a 24-tooth gear to the Sun and Moon gears. The golden star on the clock marks the vernal equinox, and the 365-tooth calendar gear shows the day of the year.
After that, I climbed to the top of the tower and took in the breathtaking view of the city. 🗼
Verdict: 10/10 experience.
Klementinum Library
Next, I visited the Klementinum Library, built in 1722 as part of a Jesuit university. It's considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world—and for good reason.
What fascinated me most were the astrology clocks and zodiac globes. 🐐🐟🦁🦀⚖️🐂🦂🐏🏺
The globes were stunning—filled with astrological glyphs and symbols. Interestingly, Australia wasn’t even on the maps, which really put into perspective how astrology predates the discovery of many parts of the modern world.
One of my favorite historical connections:
Johannes Kepler, the renowned German astrologer and astronomer, studied here. He’s famous for discovering that Earth revolves around the Sun, not the other way around.
Kepler is a personal hero of mine because he merged astrology and astronomy—two fields often seen as opposites. Astronomy is scientific and mathematical, while astrology is more spiritual and intuitive. Kepler embodied both, and to me, he represents galactic wholeness. 🔮
Visiting the Klementinum was a deeply meaningful experience. It was clear that astrology is not just tolerated here—it’s respected and studied. 📖💜
Štefánik Observatory
Lastly, I explored the Štefánik Observatory, located on Petřín Hill in central Prague. Founded in 1928, it’s named after Slovak astronomer Milan Rastislav Štefánik, and specializes in astronomy and natural sciences.
Unfortunately, it was very cloudy during my visit, so I couldn’t see any stars or planets. ☁️☹️ But I still had an amazing time learning about the observatory’s equipment, including telescopes, space rocks, and even samples from the Moon and meteors. 🌝☄️
Between its astrological wonders, fairytale architecture, amazing food, nightlife, and fashion—Prague is one of the most magical cities in the world.
Aside from astrology, I also visited:
Prague Castle 🏰
Petřín Lookout Tower 🌳
Charles Bridge 🌉
All were stunning in their own right.
That said, I did find some locals to be a bit rude. But the city's beauty and mystical energy far outweighed that.
So, whether you’re an astrologer, a mystic, or just someone who loves old-world charm—Prague is a must-visit.
