Prague is Utopic for an Astrologer 🇨🇿

As a professional astrologer, I get excited when I meet someone who is also interested in the Zodiac. So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered that Prague, Czechia EU is basically a playground for astrology enthusiasts! I was able to visit some astrological sites like the Prague astronomical clock, the Klementinum Baroque library and The Štefánik Observatory when I visited this fairytale-like town in December 2021.  I was so excited to visit this Bohemian city and it didn’t let me down. ✨

Prague Astronomical Clock

The coolest thing I felt blessed to see was the astronomical clock from 1410! 🕰 The Prague astronomical clock is situated in the beautiful Old Town Hall and is actually the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest clock still in operation. My gosh, I was kinda starstruck. Many can overlook astrology and think it's pretty silly. So I think it is so admirable how Prague takes astrology seriously for the pseudoscience that it is. The clock follows the degree of the Sun and the Moon and can calculate which zodiac sign the celestial bodies are currently in. When I visited Prague on December 1st 2021, the Sun was in Sagittarius☀️♐️ and the Moon was in Libra🌙♎️. As you may know, the Sun stays in a sign for roughly 30 days, and the Moon occupies a sign for about 2 ½ days. I thought this was a great time to travel and learn about astrology while traveling, because the sky had explorative and higher learning vibes of the Sag Sun mixed with the social and poised energy of the Libra moon. 😊

Every hour, there is the "The Walk of the Apostles", which is a show of moving Apostle figures, saints and other sculptures, notably a figure of a skeleton that represents Death, striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. 👼🏻💀According to local legend, the city will suffer if the clock is neglected and its good operation is placed in jeopardy; a ghost, mounted on the clock, was supposed to nod its head in confirmation. How cool is that?

I did a clock tour and went inside to see all the mechanisms of the clock. The displacement of the zodiac circle results from the use of a stereographic projection of the ecliptic plane using the North pole as the basis of the projection. This is commonly seen in astronomical clocks of the period. The small golden star shows the position of the vernal equinox, and sidereal time can be read on the scale with golden Roman numerals. The zodiac is on the 365-tooth gear inside the machine. This gear is connected to the sun gear and the moon gear by a 24-tooth gear. I then climbed to the top of the tower and could see the incredible view of the city! 🗼The Prague astronomical clock tower is a 10/10.

Klementinum Library

Afterwards, I visited the Klementinum, which is a baroque style library opened in 1722, part of the Jesuit university. It is known as being one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. What makes me so interested in this library is that is has lots astrology clocks and zodiac globes ! 🐐🐟🦁🦀⚖️🐂🦂🐏🏺The globes had beautiful astrological glyphs and symbols on them, yet Australia wasn't even on the map! Isn't it interesting that astrology is older than the discovery of Australia?

Furthermore, the famous German astrologer Johannes Kepler studied at this library. 📚🔮 Kepler moved to Prague to continue his studies in astrology, astronomy and math. He is the one who discovered that Earth revolves around the Sun, and not the other way around. Astrology and astronomy are often seen as polarities, as astronomy is the scientific study of the planets, being factual, mathematical and a logical study. Whereas astrology is the study of the Zodiac and energy of the planets, which is much more magical, spiritual and intangible. Therefore, I greatly look up towards Kepler, as he merged these two practices together and both a great astrologer AND astronomer. I find he represents galactic wholeness. Visiting the Klementinum was a beautiful experience that I cherish. It was clear that there was so much respect and studious appreciation for astrology at this library. 📖💜

Štefánik Observatory

Lastly, I visited the Štefánik Observatory, which is an astronomical observatory on Petřín hill in the center of Prague. Founded in 1928 and named after Slovak astronomer Milan Rastislav Štefánik, the observatory specializes in astronomy and related natural sciences. 🔭🪐

It was very cloudy when I visted the observatory, so I couldn’t see any stars or planets.☹️ But it was still super cool to learn about the telescopes and other space tools. 🌌 The observatory had rocks from the moon, fancy minerals and pieces from meterors. 🌝☄️

With all of its astrological wonders, fairytale-like city, fashion, nightlife and great food, I totally recommend Prague. Although I did find the people be a bit rude, I think Prague is one of the most magical cities in the world. Not astrology related, but I also visited the Prague Castle, the Petrin lookout tower and the Charles Bridge which were all beautiful. 🏰
